OOTD – Maxi Dress in Winter

This is the outfit I wore to a casual birthday dinner the other night. It’s been freezing in Melbourne so I have mostly been wearing pants. Unfortunately, my dresses have been collecting dust in my wardrobe; in particular my maxi dresses. I was determined to find a way to wear my maxi dress in Winter.

Most people associate maxi dresses with Spring and Summer. They can actually be worn during the colder months as well. I would recommend pairing the maxi dress with a jacket or cardigan. Both denim jackets and leather jackets work well. A blazer can also look great, especially if you want to look even more dressed up.

Don’t be afraid to pair a hat and scarf with your maxi dress. For footwear, my choice would be either ankle boots or knee high boots. To keep warm, wear stockings or leggings underneath your maxi dress. I would recommend to leave other accessories such as jewellery to a minimum; just a bracelet and a couple of rings.

I find that a well cut black maxi dress can work the best when it comes to layering.

Here are my top black maxi dress picks for this Winter:

Row 1: ASOS Deco Back Maxi Dress, Nookie Beach Desert Dreamer Maxi Dress and ASOS Maxi Dress with Circle Skirt
Row 2: Just Female Wrapped Maxi Dress, LnA Precilla Maxi Dress and American Apparel Maxi Dress
Row 3: ASOS Maxi Dress with Halterneck, ASOS Maxi Dress with Strap Detail and b + ab Maxi Dress with Double Layer Detail
Row 4: Forever Unique Maxi Dress, Vila Cut Away Maxi Dress and Pink Stitch Golden Days Maxi Dress

  1. Such a good idea! I don’t actually own a maxi dress but I love the look of one with a biker jacket and some ankle boots – seems winter appropriate enough to me!
